November Stats & Updates
A message from the Executive Director, James Hogarth
This has been a landmark month for Helmets to Hardhats, and we’re excited to share some major developments that will help us continue supporting the military community into your workforce.
Thanks to new government funding in Ontario and Alberta, we are expanding our efforts to provide top-tier training  and pre-employment safety courses to the military community, ultimately creating new pathways into the skilled trades.
New Ontario Funding: Expanding Training Opportunities for Veterans
We are thrilled to announce that the Government of Ontario has committed new funding to support the Helmets to Hardhats program. This investment will enable us to offer additional training programs and specialized courses, empowering Veterans with the skills and certifications needed to succeed in the skilled trades.
Alberta Funding: Supporting Pre-Employment Safety Training
In Alberta, we’re equally excited to announce new funding to provide pre-employment safety training to Veterans looking to enter the trades. This vital training will help ensure that our Veterans are prepared for the high standards of safety expected in the construction industry.
Empowering Veterans and Strengthening The Workforce  These investments benefit Veterans, employers, and unions as well. By participating in the Helmets to Hardhats program, employers gain access to a pool of highly disciplined, skilled, and motivated candidates who bring invaluable experience from their time in service. What’s Next?
These investments support the military community and empower unions to build a stronger, skilled workforce, ensuring long-term success for workers and the trades industry. Together, we’re creating a stronger workforce and honouring the service of our heroes.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
Best, James Hogarth

Veterans’ Corner:

Head over to our Youtube channel to hear directly from Justin, a Veteran who is thriving in the skilled trades.

Justin’s Story: From Soldier to Skilled Tradesman Justin served 8 years with the Canadian Armed Forces, but when it came time to transition to civilian life, he was unsure of his next steps. That’s when Helmets to Hardhats stepped in. Just 48 hours after registering, Justin was already in talks with LiUNA 615, a key union in the construction industry. The transition was seamless, and he quickly found himself in a job that combined his passion for working with his hands and his mental skill set—traits he honed during his military service. Today, Justin is employed with McNally Construction, where he’s not just another employee—he’s part of a team that feels like family. “I’ve never experienced this level of camaraderie anywhere else,” Justin says. “The peer-to-peer relationships are incredible. Everything just clicked, and I’ve never been happier.” For Justin, Helmets to Hardhats has had a massive impact on his life. All he wants now is to keep working in construction while building a future that feels as fulfilling as his military service. This is a prime example of the value added by a Veteran.
