H2H November Newsletter

November 2025

A message from the Executive Director, James Hogarth

November 5 to 11 marks Veterans’ Week, including Indigenous Veterans Day on November 8 and Remembrance Day on November 11.

This week, we honour those who gave their lives in service to our country. It’s a solemn time for all Canadians, but especially for the military community and their families. Whether you attend a ceremony or take a quiet moment to reflect, it’s an opportunity to remember not just their service, but the people behind the uniforms, and the sacrifices they made for all of us.

I want to take a moment to thank you for your service. As someone who works alongside and for Veterans and military members, I want to say how honoured I am to do so. At H2H, we believe one of the most meaningful ways to honour Canada’s Veterans and their families is to invest in their futures, and that commitment remains at the heart of everything we do.

Once again, thank you for your service and for everything you continue to build.

– Jim

Meet Tony: H2H Outreach Specialist

Tony Nicholas, a proud military veteran, served 14 years in the Canadian Armed Forces. After his military service, Tony transitioned to civilian life and, in 2012, joined the Helmets to Hardhats program under the Carpenters’ Union, Local 1325. In 2025, Tony joined H2H as a Veteran Outreach Specialist.

“I get to relate to military folks on personal levels – I can actually mentor them into their positions and tell them all about the trades. Because I spent 13 years there myself, working with different trades, I can help them decide what they want to get in to and I can speak to it in detail.

The people within the organization go over and above to do anything they can to help Veterans, dependants, and their families into second careers.”
