MARCH HIGHLIGHTS

Celebrating Women in Construction Week and International Women’s Day

March was a time to celebrate the talent, achievements, and vast potential of women. This month kicked off with Women in Construction Week from March 2-8, marked by International Women’s Day on March 8.

Kyla, Dave, and H2H member Jennifer went to the 8th annual Nichola Goddard Women in Leadership series together. This event supports The Captain Nichola Goddard Fund, honouring the life and leadership of Canada’s first female soldier to die in combat. Captain Goddard continues to support service women, Veterans and family members through this legacy.

Kyla and Sable attended Build A Dream’s Power & Purpose Summit in Toronto. This event empowered women in the skilled trades and other STEM industries to embrace their leadership skills while discussing important changes that would help these industries become more welcoming and inclusive.

Tony was at the Women Building Futures event in Edmonton. This was a great event to end the month, reinforcing that women have strong futures in the building trades industry and inclusion is a year-round effort. We all play a part in creating a workforce that’s safe, respectful, and diverse!

These events highlighted the leadership, strength, resilience, and skill of women across the military and trades communities.

Honouring the 35th Anniversary of the End of the Gulf War
On behalf of H2H Canada, Pat attended the ceremony in Ottawa commemorating the 35th anniversary of Operation Friction and the end of the Persian Gulf War.

More than 4,000 Canadians served in the Persian Gulf region in 1990–91 as part of an international coalition that aimed to remove the invading forces of Iraq from Kuwait. This was the first conflict where Canadian women played an active combat role.

We remember their service and sacrifices.

Local Connections: Visiting IUEC Local 96

It was a pleasure for Pat and Normand to visit IUEC Local 96 in Ottawa this month! This local is 330 members strong and is doing some impressive work in the National Capital Region, from Gatineau to Belleville.

Here are a few highlights from their visit: In-House Excellence: All training, including their comprehensive 24-hour safety program, is conducted right at their facility. High-Tech Learning: They are utilizing Virtual Reality (VR) equipment to train members on safety and scaffolding in a cutting-edge environment. Diversity in Trades: Proud to see women represented within the local’s membership! Safety First: As they say in the trade, “What goes up, must come down… safely!” A huge thank you to Daniel, Senior Business Representative, for hosting us and providing such an incredible tour of their facilities!
