A message from the Executive Director, James Hogarth
As you know, Helmets to Hardhats recently served as a major sponsor of the 165th running of the King’s Plate, a landmark event that brought together a distinguished assembly of Union representatives, industry employers, Provincial building trade councils and government representatives, including Ontario Lieutenant-Governor Edith Dumont and the Right Honourable Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

I wanted to extend a heartfelt thank you to all involved for your tremendous support and sponsorship at the King’s Plate event. Your involvement was crucial in making the event a resounding success. Hosting our valued donors, affiliates, government representatives, employers, and partners in a meaningful way underscores the impact of our collective efforts.

Meet Micheal, Armoured Crewman to Journeyman Boilermaker with Local 128. He shares his story with Helmets to Hardhats to encourage other Veterans to pursue the trades as a second career.

“The Helmets to Hardhats program was instrumental in my transition from military to civilian life. It provided me with the opportunity to enter a new, team-focused environment in the trades, where I could apply the skills and discipline I developed during my service. As a result, I started my career as a boilermaker apprentice and have progressed to journeyman status, accumulating over seven years of experience. Joining Boilermakers Union Local 128 in Ontario has allowed me to leverage the positive attributes gained from the military and apply them effectively in my current career. Helmets to Hardhats eases the worry when releasing by guiding you in the transition to a great career in the trades.”    Share Your Success Story

August Highlights

We were honoured to welcome the Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario, Edith Dumont, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to our venue at the King’s Plate, where we were proudly accompanied by uniformed military officers dedicated to assisting those transitioning out of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Their attendance emphasized the critical role of the skilled trades in our economy and the importance of supporting Veterans as they move from military service to civilian roles.

This event raised awareness about Helmets to Hardhats’ mission, highlighting the collective effort of all involved to bridge the gap between military and civilian careers through targeted support and training. The King’s Plate provided an exceptional opportunity to showcase the dedication of our partners and the unwavering support of the unionized construction industry for our Veterans.
A few Veterans were invited to a special behind-the-scenes tour of Woodbine, where they had the unique opportunity to meet and interact with the jockeys.
