This month, we were thrilled to announce an exciting new partnership with Woodbine Entertainment. Helmets to Hardhats will be recognized as the Official Building Trades Unions Veterans’ Liaison of the 165th running of The King’s Plate. This opportunity promises to open doors to even greater opportunities for our military and building trades affiliates. In addition to this partnership, June holds another significant occasion close to our hearts: Indigenous Peoples Day. At Helmets to Hardhats, we recognize and celebrate Indigenous peoples’ rich contributions and culture across our nation. It is a time to honor their heritage, resilience, and ongoing journey towards Reconciliation. June Highlights   Laura Leask, Medicine Star Woman, is Helmets to Hardhats Indigenous Outreach specialist. Since joining the team, she has connected with over 70 Indigenous organizations nationwide and attended over a dozen major conferences and cultural gatherings, including Hadiya’dagénhahs First Annual Pow Wow at Brock University, Indigenous Veterans Day celebrations in Manitoba, and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls March with the Cheam First Nation in British Columbia. These events enhanced cultural awareness and facilitated valuable networking opportunities crucial for bridging the gap between military service and civilian careers. This outreach continues to pave the way for successful transitions of Indigenous peoples into fulfilling careers within Canada’s unionized construction sector.Helmets to Hardhats Empowers Indigenous Veterans, Advances Diversity in Skilled Trades  Helmets to Hardhats and Woodbine Entertainment are pleased to announce a new partnership for the 2024 King’s Plate at Woodbine Racetrack on August 17. Through the partnership, H2H will be recognized as the Official Building Trades Unions Veterans’ Liaison of the 165th running of The King’s Plate, and a Canadian Veteran will be included in the opening ceremony. This partnership will champion our mission of empowering Veterans with meaningful career opportunities in Canada’s Building Trades Unions. We will raise awareness about our organization and showcase the abundant career possibilities available within the unionized construction industry.
