Learn about the safety recommendations of Ontario’s Construction Death Review The second annual report of the Construction Death Review (CDR) has been published. Lead by the Office of the Chief Coroner with input from IHSA, the MLITSD, and industry stakeholders, the CDR looked at the deaths of 44 workers from 2015 to 2023. Its findings and recommendations represent another important step in understanding the root causes of fatalities in Ontario’s construction sector.

Prevent exposure to hantavirus Workers who must enter crawl spaces, vacant buildings, and other areas where mice and other rodents may be present can be exposed to hantavirus, a rare but serious virus that can cause fatal illness. IHSA’s safety talk helps supervisors explain how hantavirus exposure happens—and how to minimize risk with proper ventilation, PPE, site-specific cleanup, and other safe work practices.

Charitable giving: IHSA and LIUNA Local 183 recently donated $5,000 to Luso Canadian Charitable Society, which provides a safe, supportive, and caring environment for individuals and families living with physical and/or developmental disabilities.  
PLTN grads: In June, we congratulated 41 powerline technician (PLTN) apprentices who completed a level of their training at our Skills Development Centre in Mississauga.  
Training numbers: Through May 2026, IHSA’s expert instructors have helped 25,747 people gain essential health and safety knowledge in 3,020 in-class training sessions. Another 16,611 people have benefitted from our on-demand eLearning courses.
